The not-for-profit Black Bear Film Festival (BBFF) was born in Milford in 2000 when a small group of culturally-minded creative types set about creating an event to support and promote innovative, independent films.
It celebrates Milford’s rich filmmaking heritage and the conservation movement in tribute ot Gifford Pinchot, “father of the American Conservation Movement”. Zane Grey, D.W Griffith, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish and John Barrymore are just a few of the legends who graced Milford’s alleys long before us. It also recognizes the area’s history of the birthplace of the American conservation movement and as a popular filmmaking location.

October 18th-28th, 2012 – - Philadelphia Film Festival
It is the Philadelphia Film Society’s mission to promote film as a powerful means for strengthening community education, understanding, and engagement. PFS achieves its mission thought a variety of year-round cinematic events, including the annual Philadelphia Film Festival, innovative film screenings, and two screenwriting courses. The need for an annual premiere film festival in Philadelphia is clear: with only 14 movie screens in Center City Philadelphia, there is an unfortunate lack of opportunity to view important films in a city that is otherwise known for theater, music and art. As PFS’ annual centerpiece event, the Festival makes a major contribution to the cultural milieu of the city, offering more than a hundred opportunities to view films that unite, inspire and educate Philadelphia audiences.
